Within less than last two decades people has become so addicted to social media that they do not do any activity without posting an update on social media. The frequency and intensity of the impact of social media can be gauged on both positive and negative scales. No doubt, social media has enhanced awareness of basic rights, it has increased spirit of doing group projects and it has enlarged the scope of business marketing, but it has also introduced the society to many forms of cyber activities and terrorist activities. Few years back a group of scholars and social activists started a campaign on social media with the hashtag #QanoonSabKayLiye(Law for All). They created awareness among the people of rural areas to raise their voice for their rights. This campaign also covered significant areas of law like criminal and social issues which are related to daily life which do not require any legal background. The purpose of this campaign was also to increase the literacy rate in rural areas. A decade before a lot of rape cases used to appear and get closed the very same day without any action. Now at this age of social media people raise their voice against these cases.

Social media has its drawbacks too. People involved in cyber crime activities, play with
the emotions of others. They hack personal data of the people. They blackmail them for money and other things. They harass the women and abuse them. Many countries like UK, Japan, Ireland, Canada and Australia did research on cyber crimes and found that women and teenagers are their usual targets. There is flow of unchecked information on social media that gets misused by terrorists for their inhuman activities.
Excessive use of social media has created a lot of psychological problems; people have turned very conscious about their appearance; they use many filters and applications to look more beautiful. It has developed virtual relationships with distant people but have lost connection with material reality. This has resulted in high rate of mental illness in society. People who spend more time on social media cut off from the real world and easily become the victim of cat fishing, get hurt and fell into depths of depression and anxiety. Some researchers conducted research on it and said if someone uses around-the-clock social media sites like Instagram, Twitter and Facebook that also lead to depression and anxiety. Social media has also contributed to create a religious and cultural friction in society. People on different social networking sites like Facebook, Instagram, Whats App and Twitter come across with different people all round the world and exchange their ideas and culture. People post a lot of content about religion and culture on social media sites without confirming its sanctity. Many people follow others culture without knowing background history which leads to many issues.
